Joint Labor Management Collaboration Statement
None of us are as smart as all of us.
Communication, teamwork, and mutual respect are the cornerstones of the relationship between the West Springfield Educator’s Association, school committee and school administration. The partnership that exists between these groups is integral to ensuring successful school improvement initiatives, increasing student engagement, and accelerating student achievement. All key decisions impacting the district are made in concert between leaders from each of these three groups.
Leading a school district is an imperfect science and it is the shared belief of the West Springfield Educator’s Association, school committee and school administration that issues relating to student learning are resolved by collaborating in an ongoing manner to solve problems as they arise. The WSEA leaders and the superintendent meet on a monthly basis to review ongoing issues related to the functioning of the school district. The school committee has enhanced the role of subcommittees to address issues related to policy, budget and governance. Representatives from the three groups meet jointly to review and update the district’s Race to the Top plans. It is through each of these collaborative forums that the dialogue about student achievement is shared and that the district makes advances.
