Get Ready For Kindergarten!
Step 1: Register
Families wishing to enroll their child for 2019-2020 will be using the new online enrollment application. The link to the enrollment application will be posted on wsps.org/enrollment on or around March 25, 2019. If you do not have access to a computer or mobile device, you can register your upcoming kindergartener at the Office of the Registrar on the 4th floor of the West Springfield Main Office Building at 26 Central Street. Please call Erin Rogers at 263-3388 to make an appointment. Students currently in the Cowing EC program do not need to register.
Step 2: Attend a Kindergarten Workshop @ Cowing School April 4th 4:00-4:45 pm
Come with your child to a parent cafe at Cowing school to learn what skills are needed for Kindergarten. Snacks and childcare will be provided. The parent cafe is open to those parents whose child will be attending Kindergarten at Coburn or John Ashley in the fall.

Step 3: Attend John Ashley School’s Kindergarten Orientation May 16th 6:00 pm
Come to a Kindergarten Parent Orientation at John Ashley School to learn about the kindergarten program at John Ashley School from the principal, teachers, and staff. This event is for PARENTS only. No childcare is provided.
Step 4: Kindergarten Screening June 14th & 17th*
Once registered, you will be invited to a spring screening at John Ashley School or Coburn School on one of the last two days of school (*the above dates are dependent on additional snow days). Areas to be screened include language development, cognitive and perceptual skills, and motor development. Also included is a parent/nurse conference regarding your child’s medical history and a social-emotional screening. At Coburn School, your child will also be screened for language. Screenings are by appointment only.
Step 5: Back to School Mailing
Look out for your Back to School mailing in August which includes class placement as well as key information for the start of school and activities your kindergartener can do to get ready!
Step 6: Attend a Playground Popsicle Party!
Come and meet other students and families in your Kindergarten classroom! This is a casual event to support families meeting other families. Come for a little bit or stay the whole time. The Principal will be present with popsicles for the children to enjoy. Classroom teachers will not be present. The playground party is weather permitting. In the event of rain, it will be rescheduled for the rain date.

Step 7: Kindergarten Bus Orientation August 21st 10:00-11:00
Come with your incoming kindergartner to John Ashley to practice riding the bus and learn safety rules!
Step 8: Meet and Greet August 29th
Come to the Meet and Greet at Coburn or Ashley, to meet the teachers and see the classroom. The Meet and Greet Schedule will be mailed out with the back to school information. There are no buses for kindergarten on these days.
Step 9: First Day of School! August 30th
Bring your kindergartener to the bus stop and give a hug and kiss good-bye! We will take good care of your child when he/she arrives!
