Step 2: Acceptance Into the Program

We have rolling admissions into the program and prioritize admissions based on age. Priority is given to children age 4 attending kindergarten the following year. We offer half day programs Monday-Thursday and full day for students already enrolled in the program based on a lottery.  Acceptance for 2019-2020 will begin in April.

Step 3: Proof of Income

Once accepted, tuition for peer partners is calculated according to the Commonwealth of Mass. EEC Financial Assistance Scale. Please bring or send proof of one month’s income to the school office so that we may calculate the tuition for your child to attend our school.

Step 4: Fee Agreement & Tuition

Once you submit your income information, you will receive a fee agreement to sign and return to the school. The first month’s tuition must be paid with your signed Fee Agreement at the school office. Your child will not be able to attend Cowing Preschool until this payment has been made.

Step 5: Register

Once the tuition agreement has been signed, families will need to complete enrollment for their child using the West Springfield Public School’s new online enrollment application found at . If you do not have access to a computer or mobile device, you can register at the Office of the Registrar on the 4th floor of the West Springfield Main Office Building at 26 Central Street. Please call Erin Rogers at 263-3388 to make an appointment. You will need the following documents:

  • Birth Certificate - Student must be 3 or 4 by September 1st in order to attend

  • Physical and immunizations

  • Proof of Lead Screening

  • Proof of Residency - Please refer to the enrollment requirements posted on the enrollment page:

Step 6: Preschool Screening

Once registered, you will be invited to a spring screening at Cowing School on one of the last two days of school. Pending any additional snow days, these dates are Friday, June 14th and Monday, June 17th.  Areas to be screened include language development, cognitive and perceptual skills, and motor development. Also included is a parent/nurse conference regarding your child’s medical history and a social-emotional screening.

Step 7: Back to School Mailing

Look out for your Back to School mailing which includes class placement as well as key information for the start of school and activities your preschooler can do to get ready!

Step 8: Meet and Greet

Come to the Cowing  Meet and Greet on Friday, August 30th, to meet the teachers and see the classroom. You will be invited to a morning or afternoon session depending on the student’s session. AM session attends in the morning and PM in the afternoon. There are no buses for preschool on these days.

Step 9: First Day of School

Cowing's First Day of School is Tuesday, September 3rd! Bring your student to the bus stop or drop your student off at our side entrance and give a hug and kiss good-bye!  We will take good care of your child when he/she arrives!
