West Springfield High School serves the 9th through 12th grade for the Town of West Springfield, Massachusetts. The current building was opened in 2014 after the decommission and demolition of the original 1956 high school. Here at WSHS we strive to empower and inspire our students to achieve their fullest potential.

Our Philosophy

WSHS educates all students to be well-rounded, responsible individuals who contribute to our evolving 21st century society. Our philosophy is rooted in providing a well-rounded education that prepares our students for success in all aspects of life. We strive to challenge and inspire our students through innovative teaching methods, and a commitment to continuous improvement. Our dedicated faculty members are passionate about their subjects and go above and beyond to engage students in meaningful learning experiences.

WSHS is not only committed to academic growth. We believe in the power of extracurricular activities and encourage students to participate in a wide range of sports, clubs, and after-school programs. Through these opportunities, students can discover their passions, develop leadership skills, and build lasting friendships. Our competitive sports teams embody the spirit of teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship, while our diverse selection of clubs and activities allows students to explore their interests and expand their horizons.

We are dedicated to empowering our students to become confident, compassionate, and successful individuals who make a positive impact on the world.

Message from the Principal

Dear West Springfield High School Students and Families:

Welcome to the 2023 - 2024 School Year! We are excited to welcome back WSHS students back to the building on August 31, for the first day of school. In this mailing you will find the District Calendar, Lunch Application, Chromebook Insurance form or waiver, a student Chromebook Acknowledgement form, Letter from the Athletic Trainer, Yearbook Order Form, Health form, and information on the Parent Portal. Please take the time to read each document, and if you have any questions please contact the main office (413)263-3400 or the guidance office (413)263-3478. Student schedules will be available on the Parent Portal beginning August 18. Schedules will not be mailed home.

WSHS will continue to focus on the importance of a positive school culture and community. We will do this through our shared values and expectations outlined in the West Side Way:

Showing Compassion

Learning Resilience

Acting with Integrity

Striving for Excellence

We believe these are the foundational elements for all of our students to find success throughout High School and beyond.

We are fortunate at West Springfield High School that every student is able to be issued a Google Chromebook for use at school and home. Chromebook insurance can be paid online, by mail, or in person. Chromebooks will be distributed the first week of school however, students will not be provided a ChromeBook until the appropriate insurance documents are completed (included in this mailing).

Communication is a key component to our students’ success. I encourage everyone to regularly check their email, follow me on twitter (@WSPS_WSHS), and visit our website. The teachers and staff are here to support students and families. Please do not hesitate to reach out to ask questions or get clarification.

I look forward to the start of school and working with you through the year.

Sincerely,
Patrick Danby
